EMAIL/POST HEADER: "Cherokee, Medal of Honor winner, and Wounded Knee 2 Occupation Veteran seeks prayers"
Wounded Knee 2 occupation, and WW2 veteran and Medal of Honor recipient James D. Slaton, 73, of Southeast Missouri, has been told by medical doctors that he has a terminal cancer. He asks all to send prayers and smoke up for him.
James spent 5 years in a Federal Pen for "Conspiracy to overthrow the Government of the U.S." after the Feds promised, in order to break up the occupation of Wounded Knee in 1976, that no one would be prosecuted in the wake of that occupation.
After 25 years, he is still harrased regularly by the feds. He received 3 harrasing calls last week fom a BATF agent in Cape Girardeau, MO. They call even though they know he is sick and dying.
He gets shaken down regularly, and the feds strip off the paneling of his home.
As all elders are, he is badly needed by all of us, to pass on his knowledge before he passes. He entered the Osi/Asi (sweat lodge) with our spiritual leaders today, to pray for a healing, if it is Creator's will. He has dedicated a lifetime to the Red Path.
Here is his bio from the US Army official website:
He says he got cut off from his squad, and his own squad was firing on him with 81mm mortar fire!

"On 23 September, for example, Cpl. James D. Slaton of the 45th Infantry Division was lead scout of a squad which had been directed to eliminate a German position delaying the advance of his company. Moving ahead of his fellow soldiers, Slaton assaulted the machine gun nest, killing the gunner with his bayonet. Unable to extricate the bayonet, he detached it from his rifle and shot another gunner. Subsequently, he advanced under heavy fire and eliminated two more machine gun positions with grenades and rifle fire, opening the way for his company to advance. For his courageous actions, Corporal Slaton was awarded the Medal of Honor"

Cpl. James D. Slaton, US Army
As lead scout of an infantry squad positioned near Oliveto, Italy, Cpl.
Slaton began a deadly assault on September 23, 1943, moving over open ground and under constant fire, killing numerous enemy gunners. Slaton immobilized three enemy machine gun nests during the onslaught, enabling his platoon to withdraw to covered positions and again take the initiative.
Our brother, John Slaton passed over to be with the Creator in August, 2001. Let us pray for his family and friends who miss he dearly.
